You must must must listen to the students from Santa Fe Indian School in their spoken word performances. I wrote about them twice, including clips of their performances.

Here's another: http://americanindiansinchildrensliterature.blogspot.com/2011/05/ya-poetry-cd-moccasins-and-microphones.html
I highly recommend WALKING ON EARTH AND TOUCHING THE SKY, available from Birchbark Books: http://birchbarkbooks.com/all-online-titles/walking-on-earth-and-touching-the-sky
And Luci Tapahonso's work! http://americanindiansinchildrensliterature.blogspot.com/2013/05/navajo-nations-first-poet-laureate-luci.html
There are others to read/know about, too.
Nora Naranjo-Morse's MUD WOMAN: POEMS FROM THE CLAY, published in the Sun Tracks series at U of Arizona... And Ofelia Zepeda's OCEAN POWER: POEMS FROM THE DESERT. See all of the books in that series, in fact. They aren't for young children but many would work with students in high school: https://www.uapress.arizona.edu/series/series_detail.php?s=7
