And here's a fun fact that kids will love-- Lee (Bennett Hopkins) holds a Guinness World Record for poetry anthologies for young people!

I'm also a fan of the "homemade" anthology-- encouraging children to keep or write copies of their favorite poems in their own poetry notebooks. That choosing helps make the poem their own and writing it out really promotes a savoring of the words and lines. It's an old-fashioned idea, but one that still has value. And to add a technology twist, we can encourage kids to use digital tools and record themselves reading their favorite poems in their own audio anthologies (and what a lovely keepsake of their young voices) or make PowerPoint slideshows or glogs, etc. of their favorite poems. (Just be sure these anthologies are kept private or only shared with family and friends. Posting poems online or publishing them in any public way requires copyright permission, of course.)
Finally, one other anthology connection is an idea from Georgia Heard (and I cite it in my book, POETRY ALOUD HERE):
Poet Georgia Heard encourages children in the schools to create a living anthology. She says, “Instead of collecting poems we love and putting them in a book, we’ll make an anthology out of the walls and spaces around the school. It will be our jobs to make sure poetry is all around the building so that other students and teachers can have a chance to read some poetry” (1999, 23).
