Two exciting children's and young adult book events will spice up the 10^th annual PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature, to be held in New York City from April 28-May 4. This year's festival theme is "On the Edge," celebrating those who have dared to stand "on the edge," risking their careers, and sometimes their lives, to speak out for their art and beliefs.
On Saturday, May 3, at 3:00 p.m., How to Write a (Super) Hero
<http://worldvoices.pen.org/event/2014/03/14/how-write-super-hero> will feature Sarwat Chadda and C.J. Farley in a conversation about alternate universes, mythology and what makes a successful hero's quest. Geared for kids ages 10 and up, this event is sure to include plenty of talk about gods, monsters and video gaming, so bring your young friends!
Chadda, whose most recent book is /The City of Death /(Arthur Levine/Scholastic), comes to us from London, England. His first novel for kids, /Game World /(Black Sheep/Akashic), was just published. At Subculture, 45 Bleecker Street, NY, NY.
On Sunday, May 4, at 12:30 p.m., five distinguished authors will share their experiences of writing about provocative subjects at our committee-sponsored panel, Sex and Violence: Where the Wild Things
(really) Are
