For more on the bad end of things, *Hush* by Eishes Chayil/Judy Brown
(depending on whether you buy the first edition or a later one) has this issue set in the Chassidic community.

Jackson Pearce's *Purity* is an interesting one as far as virginity pledges go. It's not explicitly religious, but clearly it's based in a Christian tradition, since I don't know of other cultures that have purity balls or rings or ceremonies.
