While Merri channels a stereotype of a teenage girl.... (sorry--she knows I can't stop laughing at all the question marks?--but I can also attest to the fact that she did NOT type them--they just mysteriously appeared), I'll add re. "Grasshopper Jungle" that it worked for me re. the rampant sex-focus of Austin, even though that is typically something that turns me off as a reader. I was surpised at the fact that I didn't find it ovedone and off-putting, but I was so completely taken into the story and his perspective and his very real attraction to both his girlfriend and his best friend--conflicting desires that he didn't want to be conflicting. Perhaps is part of the reason that I found his constant sexual commentary understandable. I also found his voice funny; crass too, at times, but, again, suprisingly, in a way that pushed me to the edge but not over it.
