I???m also eager to hear reports of teen reader response to /Grasshopper Jungle./Like Claudia and Monica, I loved this book, especially for the humor of Austin???s voice ??? including his obsessive thoughts of sex.While there was much I appreciated about Andrew Smith???s earlier book /Winger,
/ultimately I found /Grasshopper Jungle/ to be more credible.(I can???t quite believe I???m saying that about a story featuring giant praying mantises bringing down human civilization as we know it!)I think that credibility was a product of what seemed like Austin???s genuine teenage attitude toward his sexuality ??? a mix of thoughtfulness, confusion, and fixation.
