YA Lit/Sex Ed

I live in North Carolina where the state legislature passed a bill last spring that requires schools to teach that abortion causes preterm birth in subsequent pregnancies, along with risks that are medically proven like taking drugs, smoking and drinking. In addition, the curriculum also has the anti-LGBT language that "a mutually faithful monogamous heterosexual relationship in the context of marriage is the best lifelong means of avoiding sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS."

I live in an academic community with good public and school libraries where students have access to a wide range of books and texts about sexuality. However, I suspect that this is not the case in other places in the state, which has had a spate of recent high profile censorship cases, where young people may not have easy access to other viewpoints or factual information.
