Morning, Sarah, Ebony and all. LEE & LOW will be happy to repost Sarah’s activism summary of the discussion on our blog, while giving CCBC-net full credit and back links. We will alert the group when the summary is posted. Look for it in the near future.
Also, worth mentioning and definitely related to our month log discussion, LEE & LOW's Diversity Gap study on the Academy Awards went viral and was picked up by a number of large news channels, like Huffington Post, indiewire, NY Times, and MSNBC. The interest was massive and shows that people care very much about race issues in media. It is crucial that the conversation on race reaches a broader audience outside children’s book circles. Connecting these dots for people helps folks realize that the causation behind the reasons that there are not more diverse books is related to why there are not more diverse films, plays, and TV, shows, etc. The list goes on. A link to the study is here: http://wp.me/py0i0-259
Some meaningful dialogue happened on the NY Times blog over the weekend. Why this is important is b/c it represented a rare chance for the kinds of discussions that we had here at CCBC to occur on a mainstream news blog like the New York Times. This type of back and forth on the NY Times blog is the kind of dialogue that must happen throughout the year so people realize why issues of inequality still persist and what can be done about it. A link to the article and 31 comments is here: http://nyti.ms/1ewvUYF
Thanks,
