Before we move on to our March discussion, I want to once again thank Tim Tingle, for his amazing book, "How I Became a Ghost," and his participation on this list. Thanks, too, go to Eric Gansworth for writing "If I Ever Get Out of Here," and for his thoughtful, thought-provoking, and humorous responses to the questions people posed on this list. Thanks, too, to the publishers of these two books, Roadrunner Press and Arthur A. Levine / Scholastic Inc for making it possible for the authors to participate. We were also lucky to hear from the editors of the books, Jean Devlin and Cheryl Klein. Thank you both for sharing your insights.
If anyone has any last comments on the two books we discussed this month, today is your chance to make them. Someone earlier in the month talked about the importance of focusing on the great books that are out there, rather than only talking about what is missing, and I would like to second that. If you didn't get a chance to read either of these books yet, I encourage you to do so when you can, even though our discussion is ending. And share them with the children and teens in your lives.
We also encourage you to continue making announcements of any events related to children's and young adult literature that are coming up in the near future.
We will start our March discussion tomorrow on "Sex and Sexuality in Young Adult Literature." As we did in February, we will be discussing two books at the end of the month, and, happily, both authors will be joining us to answer questions. If you'd like to get the books to read in advance, here they are:
Week of March 17: The Summer Prince by Alaya Dawn Johnson (Arthur A. Levine Books / Scholastic Inc., 2013)
Week of March 24: The F* It List by Julie Halpern (Feiwel and Friends, 2013)
My colleagues Merri Lindgren and Megan Schliesman will be facilitating the March discussion. if you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, feel free to write me at horning_at_education.wisc.edu
Cheers, KT
