Thank you, Sarah! I will share your summary and excellent additional ideas with my graduate children's literature class -- a course that begins and ends with a discussion of diversity that continues all through the middle.

I came to this discussion so late that I missed it entirely but I have read every word. I appreciate the honesty and goodwill of all concerned, and have bookmarked many resources that I learned about here. This is why ccbc-net is my favorite listserv and the one that I recommend personally to my students.

I know the discussion is officially over, but hoping (as I think Helen Frost suggested) that we can continue just a bit over the weekend, I would like to point out that many of the issues raised here also apply to international children's literature and I was pleased to see translation, cultural and otherwise, discussed as part of the package. I think that our efforts to encourage the production of more diverse books should include getting more translations and English-language imports from other countries into the hands of children.

Best, Annette
