If you enjoy exploring the art of the picture book and are ever near Findlay, Ohio, check out the Mazza Museum at the University of Findlay. I had never heard of it until my parents moved there. It has a rotating gallery-style display of original picture book art, along with extra information about the art/processes and the picture books in which the illustration appeared. If you happen to be there when a school tour is going on, you can learn even more. They also have conferences and the gift shop is amazing. (I'm not associated with them in any way. I just love it.)

Thank you to those of you who "explored the scary" for the first part of November.
It's time to take up our topic for the second part of the month: Artful: Best Illustrated Books and Other Thoughts on Picture Book Art.
The New York Times has come out with its list of the "Best Illustrated Books of 2013" (see slideshow: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2013/10/31/books/review/31best-illustrated.html ). During the second half of November, we invite you to talk about these titles and/or your thoughts on elements and examples of outstanding book illustration. (Also of interest The Horn Book Magazine's "Calling Caldecott" blog: http://www.hbook.com/category/blogs/calling-caldecott/ )
