This 36th annual Mary Calletto Rife Youth Literature Seminar features bestselling author Ally Condie, writer Michael Cart, and book reviews by Cindy Dobrez & Lynn Rutan, and teen librarian/writer Robin Brenner.

Special Preview! Meet the Author: Thursday, November 7, 6:30 pm at Kalamazoo Public Library's Central Location<http://www.kpl.gov/central/>, 315 South Rose Street, Kalamazoo - Ally Condie is the New York Times bestselling author for her Matched series. Matched was chosen as one of YALSA's 2011 Teens' top Ten, named as one of Publishers Weekly's Best Children's books of 2010, selected as the #1 Pick on the Winter Kids' Indie Next List, and received starred reviews from Kirkus and Publishers Weekly.

Condie will speak at the 2013 Youth Literature Seminar at 10:30 am. Condie is the author of the international bestseller Matched and its sequel, Crossed. In a starred review for the sequel, Crossed, Kirkus called the Matched series an "addictive, layered dystopic trilogy." A former English teacher, Condie lives with her husband and four children outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. She loves reading, writing, running and listening to her husband play guitar. During her talk, Condie will discuss her exciting series and why her work resonates with the YA audience.

* 8:00 am: Check-in Begins

* 9:00 am: Welcome

* 9:15 am: Michael Cart, writer, lecturer, consultant and longtime Booklist contributor will discuss the category of readers referred to as "New Adults" who cross easily back and forth between YA and adult readerships and how this widens the audience for YA writers.

* 10:30 am: Ally Condie

* 11:30 am: Lunch and Book Signing

* 12:30 pm: Cindy Dobrez & Lynn Rutan have each chaired the American Library Association's Best Books for Young Adults committee and the Michael L. Printz Award committee. Cindy and Lynn co-author the Bookends Blog for Booklist Online from Holland, Michigan, reviewing and recommending books for preschoolers through teens. They will reprise their popular talk about the latest and greatest books and what's on the horizon for tweens and teens.

* 1:30 pm: Break & Book Signing

* 2:00 pm: Robin Brenner is the Teen Librarian at the Brookline Public Library in Massachusetts. When not presenting programs and reading guidance, she writes for publications including VOYA, The Horn Book, Library Journal, and Knowledge Quest. She is the editor-in-chief of the graphic novel review website, "No Flying, No Tights." Brenner will discuss the controversial role women play in comics: as creators; how women are portrayed; and female fan acknowledgment.

Books will be available for sale and signing by local, privately owned bookstore, Bookbug. Refreshments are included.
