Hey CCBC Friends,
As many of you know, I've been on a very unconventional book tour. Here's the link if you're not aware of it.

It has taken me over 9,000 miles (many of them driven) since June 28th, over 33 States and I've been called rockstar, Wexican (whitest Mexican American) and hero by the kids. The tour will wrap up at the end of October, but life will not resume to normal. By the way, this is actually a fantastic thing.
After meeting with at-risk youth across America, this is broadly defined, I felt beyond humbled and inspired. It's taken ever penny I've had and the generosity of others to make the FAT ANGIE book tour and At-Risk Summer documentary come into fruition. While the book has become a platform for anti-bully activism and the discuss topics such as self-image, suicide, family, self-harm and same sex relationships, it has also allowed me to show up and be incredibly real with the kids who need it to be real.
After meeting with kids at Fair View High School (Continuing Education) in Chico, CA, it became clear to me what had been growing during the whole tour. Create a national organization -- a movement -- that will empower the kids that are often counted out. Here is a link to my blog about these kids:

So, I am working with a web designer out of San Francisco, CA who has donated over $10,000 dollars in services to create Never Counted Out. This will be a multi-layered project that will have creativity at the helm of empowering youth. Facebook link should you be interested.

Because I'm on the tour currently, I'm doing all that I can remotely to get this going but wanted to share it with all of you. You are on the front lines with all kinds of kids.
Last but not least, I finish my travels with stops in Wisconsin, Chicago, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Texas. If you are in these regions, please connect with me about libraries and/or at-risk programs who may be interested in a different kind of rock the creativity visit. Thanks to author C.G. Watson, I now have a swanky Power Point to surf out for the low down.
Thanks so much for the read, paying kindness forward and championing literature in kids. You all rock!
Sincerely,
