At the risk of, what the heck, self interest, I'll mention my multicultural, beginning chapter books about Katie Woo, including the 4-story anthologies: "Katie Woo Loves School" and "Katie Woo Rules the School." Stories deal (lightly and humorously) with issues of being teased, stealing from another student, (temporarily) losing the class pet (temporarily). getting the worst role in the class play, (and making the best of it), getting lost on a school trip, and others.
