A more recently published YA title I would recommend on this same topic of Alaskan boarding schools is Debby Dahl Edwardson's MY NAME IS NOT EASY. Set in the early 1960s and based on her Inupiaq husband's experience, MY NAME IS NOT EASY was a National Book Award finalist a couple of years ago.
