Sorry if this has already been mentioned but The Long Red Scarf by Nette Hi lton, 1987, is about grandpa who likes to fish with his friend who has a lo ng blue scarf to keep him warm. He wants the LONGEST, REDDEST scarf to keep himself warm, but his female relatives are too busy or don't know how to k nit. After grumping about it he finally asks his friend who says he knitted his scarf himself, and teaches grandpa to knit. The females are busy tendi ng the cows and building a cradle for a new baby, and the whole story is ju st simply told and fun.

Forgot about this one in my previous post! In KNIT YOUR BIT, by Deborah Ho pkinson (Pub. Feb 2013), young boys decide to take part in a Knitting Bee t o benefit World War I soldiers. Boys cross over the stereotypical gender l ine, and knitting itself is re-cast (no pun intended) as not exclusively a woman's occupation. Everyone wins!
