A major theme of Linda Sue Park's A Long Walk to Water is the search for ho me and security. Based on the true story of Salva Dut, a "Lost Boy of Sud an," Park chronicles his treacherous trek over a war-torn African landsca pe that spans more than a decade and a thousand miles. There is also a para llel narrative about a southern Sudanese girl who spends 8 hours a day coll ecting water for her family. In this lyrically written and moving novel, Salva's journey comes full circle when he returns to South Sudan to drill w ater wells. A Long Walk to Water is also a best-seller, currently #11 on the New York Times Middle Grade list! Julie Corsaro
