One that I found quite powerful was _Waiting for Normal_, where the child struggles to make a home despite an unreliable mother.
Several of Ruth White's books seem to deal with making a home after displacement. _Belle Prater's Boy_ gives a strong sense of a small town setting and the various types of tension within homes.
