Thank you, Cathy! I have been lurking, reading the on the road books, trying to remember Traveling Man's title, because I liked it very much. Can I also add Pullman's Dark Materials trilogy, which takes us all over, The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly, a lovely journey into a fantasy and growing up, and if I may, my own new book, How Do You Burp in Space? a kids' travel guide for space tourism, based on facts and speculation by experts. Last, does anyone remember a middle-grade novel in which a dad and son(?) take a journey during the Great Depression to find the grave of the father's father?

I like James Rumford's books including "Traveling Man: The Journey of Ibn Battuta, 1325-1354"; "Calabash Cat and His Amazing Journey"; and "Chee-Lin: A Giraffe's Journey." Also "A Giraffe Goes to Paris" by Maary Tavener Holmes and John Harris and "The Travels of Benjamin of Tudela: Through Three Continents in the Twelfth Century" by Uri Shulevitz. (It's amazing how far and for how long people (and giraffes) traveled before cars and planes.
