Hi all,
Given the topic of this month's discussion, I thought everyone on the CCBC-Net listserv would like to know that TeachingBooks.net has compiled -- and made freely available -- all of the instructional materials that will help teachers and librarians bring the Caldecott books to life with their young readers.
Check out the multimedia collection at: http://TeachingBooks.net/Caldecott
Once you click on this link, you'll see the book covers for almost all of the books that have ever been recognized by the Caldecott committee (winning and honor titles).
Scroll over or click on a title (displayed in alphabetical order), and then you'll have immediate access to movies, audio recordings, lesson plans, illustrator websites, and all the online materials about these books that we feel can connect you in new ways.
Within this collection are 21 movies that TeachingBooks made in the homes of these amazing illustrators, 448 lesson plans, 228 audio recordings (including 82 of the authors and illustrators pronouncing their names), and hundred of other resources, too.
Please freely enjoy these materials as you plan Caldecott programming, or simply want to learn more about how an illustrator made their pictures. And you do NOT need to subscribe to TeachingBooks to access these materials. They are made available to everyone as part of the 75th anniversary celebration of the Caldecott Medal. So you can share this, Tweet the resources, etc, as you wish.
NOTE: for the living illustrators, there is a very good chance that we've called them up and created what we call a "Meet-the-Author Book Reading" with them, where they share the inspiration and process for creating their illustrations. I really hope you find some memorable, useful materials in this collection.
Enjoy, Nick
PS: One of my personal Caldecott favorites is Ed Emberley's DRUMMER HOFF. Love the colorful woodblock prints! And of course, the flowers blooming out of cannons!
