1) What is your all-time favorite Caldecott medal book and why? 2) Which Caldecott medal books do you remember from childhood? 3) Which previous winners have stood the test of time? Which haven't

1. THE SNOWY DAY, for all the reasons you stated so eloquently in the De Grummond Lecture (you should post a summary here) and WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, because it is not a nostalgic look at childhood.

2. (In addition to the two above - I'm dating myself here since you specified "from childhood") SAM, BANGS AND MOONSHINE, SYLVESTER AND THE MAGIC PEBBLE, THE LITTLE HOUSE, MAKE WAY FOR DUCKLINGS, MADELINE, and DRUMMER HOFF.

3. All of the above have clearly stood the test of time, plus JUMANJI, POLAR EXPRESS, OWL MOON, SMOKEY NIGHT, GOLEM, THE THREE PIGS, ST. GEORGE AND THE DRAGON, WHY MOSQUITOES BUZZ, ARROW TO THE SUN, LON PO PO.
