I have to give a shout-out to a book from several years ago: Punk Rock Etiquette: The Ultimate How-To Guide for DIY Punk, Underground, and Indie Bands by Travis Nichols (Flash Point / Roaring Brook Press, 2008).

This graphic novel is so funny and so jam-packed with information.. It covers everything from forming a band, writing and recording music and booking gigs to transportation, packing instructions, and a recipe for a healthy snack on the road. There’salso information on stage etiquette (respect for the audience and other bands), collecting payment, and post-show etiquette (think about the ramification of the one-night stand). Merchandising tips include step-by-step instructions for screen printing t-shirts, producing CD sleeves, and making the most of the web.

I learned so much that I'll personally never use. But I have no doubt those who are embarking on musical careers or band aspirations will be entertained, informed and inspired.
