The PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature will take place in New York City, April 29-May 5. Writers from across the globe will convene in NY to explore bravery in art, politics, and personal life. This year's Festival will examine writers' impact on political transformations in recent global hot spots such as Burma, Palestine, South Africa, Haiti, and Guantanamo Bay---as well as honor those small

acts of bravery displayed in everyday life. Join us for a variety of events including panel discussions, one-on-one conversations, participatory workshops and performances at venues crisscrossing the city.

The children's literature panel, "Braving Our Endangered World," will feature Loree Griffin Burns, Eliot Shrefer and Padma Venkatraman on Saturday, May 4, from 1:00--2:30 p.m. at The Public Theater. Burns and Venkatraman will also be participating in "A Literary Safari" on Friday, May 3, from 6:30--10: 00 p.m. at Westbeth Center for the Arts.

Other Festival authors who've written children's books include Welsh poet, playwright and translator Gillian Clarke, participating in"Speaking In Languages On The Edge" on May 1, "A Literary Safari" on May 3, and "Revitalizing Endangered Languages" on May 4; Native American poet, musician and playwright Joy Harjo, appearing in the "Opening Night Reading: Bravery" on April 29, "Speaking In Languages On The Edge" on May 1, and "Obsession: Joy Harjo On Time" on May 3; and author-illustrator Maira Kalman, conducting a workshop, "Maira Kalman: Come On Over And Have A Cup Of Tea" on May 1.

Highlights of the festival also include an address by Phillip Roth, who will receive the PEN Literary Service Award at the PEN Literary Gala on April 30; and the Arthur Miller Freedom to Write Lecture on Sunday, May 5, which will be delivered by Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States Sonia Sotomayor, followed by a Conversation with Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
