Thank you for mentioning these books, Vicki.  I just used I Fall Down i n a storytime yesterday.  My preschool storytimes are designed to target the standards developed by our state to prepare children for kindergarten, and our topic yesterday was "Physical Science," which I narrowed down to fo cus on gravity.  I really like the way you present the information in the "Science Play" books.  The language is just right for the audience, and there are "experiments" built right in.  My kids especially loved weighin g the sponge and bar of soap in their hands.  In addition to I Fall Down, we also read Chicken Little by Rebecca Emberley and Ed Emberley and Oh, No! by Candace Fleming and Eric Rohmann, and incorporated "Humpty Dumpty" a s well.

I've scro=

lled through all the recommendations so far and have not found my "Science Play" series on your lists.  These are four books (I See Myself, I Fall D own, I Gete Wet, I Face the Wind)  that integrate hands-on activities and language in a picture book format.  I have written fairly extensively ab out them.  "Books to Make You Stop Reading" was published in Booklist and I have it on my website here: http://www.vickicobb.com/Cobb.pdf  For any one who is interested, I have analyzed to of the texts for the pedagogy beh ind the language.  The links to that are here http://www.vickicobb.com/po intofview.htm  I have also done professional development with a preschool teachers using these books with spectacular results.  Here's a video abo ut that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx7U0RUUujw

Despite criticalacclaim (I Face the Wind was a Sibert Honor book) and strong sales and a p roposal for twelve more titles, HarperCollins doesn't publish this kind of book anymore and other publishers don't want HC "leftovers"--they want some thing "fresh and new" from me.  So these four titles on gravity, water, l ight, and air are all there are.
