Re: Science for the very young
I've scrolled through all the recommendations so far and have not found my "Science Play" series on your lists. These are four books (I See Myself, I Fall Down, I Gete Wet, I Face the Wind) that integrate hands-on activities and language in a picture book format. I have written fairly extensively about them. "Books to Make You Stop Reading" was published in Booklist and I have it on my website here: http://www.vickicobb.com/Cobb.pdf For anyone who is interested, I have analyzed to of the texts for the pedagogy behind the language. The links to that are here http://www.vickicobb.com/pointofview.htm I have also done professional development with a preschool teachers using these books with spectacular results. Here's a video about that:
Despite critical acclaim (I Face the Wind was a Sibert Honor book) and strong sales and a proposal for twelve more titles, HarperCollins doesn't publish this kind of book anymore and other publishers don't want HC "leftovers"--they want something "fresh and new" from me. So these four titles on gravity, water, light, and air are all there are.
