Dear All,
I want to believe that we should all "expect" these battles to be fought and won but I have to say this mindset, which I have suffered from, is simplistic. For how many thousands of years did humans live without rights for all? For how many years have we had partial rights for some?
Do we really believe that we can fight a civil rights battle, "win it", and it will stay the way it should without any effort?
I don't believe that any civil rights battle will ever be over and if it is, it will not be because people are fair, but because groups have changed, and whose on top and whose on bottom has shifted or groups no longer exist.
The effort will continue and we need to stop believing in the myth that a battle can be won. This is the myth that people want us to believe so that we will be complacent in our struggle and be willing to put up with "good enough".
