Thank you, Sarah, you so completely articulated my thoughts and some others that I don't have much to add. Art is not statically driven. It is no news that trade publishing is for the most part publishing books like the books that earned income in previous years. That is why if teachers and librarians are buying their books for their classrooms from chain stores, they are not supporting diversity of content whether it be economic or cultural. I do urge my own students, friends and anyone who listens to look for small presses like Cinco Puntos and Lee and Low. To buy those award winners honored by the Pura Belpre and CSK to insure the continued publishing programs providing materials for audiences we care so passionately about.
