Is there anyone funnier than Sherman Alexie? Those who have heard him spea k know he could probably get all kinds of gigs as a stand-up comedian. Tho se who have read his books know that he deepens and humanizes his character s and difficult topics of race and social justice through humor. One of th e reasons teens so love his Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian is the laugh out loud humor that juxtaposes the painful and the poignant. I t hink humor intensifies the dark side of situations in Alexie's novels, and helps us relate to problems faced by his characters.
