Debbie Reese makes a good recommendation regarding the PBS documentary. I would encourage you to google the Librotraficante movement if you are unfamiliar and see how Latino authors have been responding to efforts to remove their work from libraries and schools. YA author Matt De La Pena's book is among the ones targeted, and he speaks really eloquently of the experience of having his books removed from a school. In a nutshell: We want books by Latinos but we fear books that discuss the true complexities of life as Latinos.
