Congratulations on the "Emerging Voices" Award Mary Louise! And I totally agree with you about the importance of children seeing authors both "like themselves" and different. I have heard very talented multi-published African-American authors mention that they did not believe they could become authors until they actually met an author who looked like them.

Of course like me, they were children many years ago, and things have improved, but I still think it makes a difference.
