I'm on a mission to rebrand "Black History Month" as "Black Success Month" which should be a positive celebration of contributions, rather than an annual rehash of civil rights, slavery and oppression. As such, I wanted to share this annual feature published by TheRoot.com, a division of the Washington Post.

I had the pleasure of interviewing six of the twenty-five finalists. The bios are short - but these students are stunning. If we want to see change in the world, perhaps publishing models should pay careful attention to these "invisible" movers and shakers and acquire content accordingly. This year I interviewed artists, poets, politicians, businesswomen. Last year I interviewed Rhodes and Marshall scholars. These are aspect of our lives most children of color don't know are available - especially the young Latino woman I spoke of in an earlier post.
