Let's remember, kind souls, that various awards were begun to promote publi shing for children or specific content in books. That goal seems to be pr etty successful given our field and the children's book publishing world. Newer awards have been conceived to highlight areas that were being neglect ed -- thus Lee's steady request for a poetry book award -- and I agree with him! :)

The common person knows little of the award system or meaning. Most have h eard of the Caldecott and parents do notice those seals on books -- why els e would vendors and other associations be developing their own "stickers"?

Once again, it is mainly about business in America. (sigh) A shining light is that our children have benefitted from this focus and th ere are wonderful books being published for children daily! Read on ---- !
