*Only 0.4 miles (just under 6 blocks) from the Washington State Convention Center

* 7-9 p.m. * Banquet style * Vegetarian option available - choose when registering online * Menu: Chicken gyoza and jicama summer rolls with tamarind-chili sauce , a mixed greens salad with miso vinaigrette, and your choice of either Bud dha Tofu over Mixed Vegetables, Stir-Fried Lemongrass Chicken, or Vietnames e Pad Thai, all served over rice, with ice cream for dessert. * Your choice of a soft drink or iced tea is included. * Cash is encouraged for any alcoholic or other beverage/food purchases . Prices:
* $25 for APALA members / $35 for non-members before January 1, 2013. * $30 for APALA members / $40 for non-members between January 1, 2013 a nd January 20, 2013. Additionally, please join us before dinner in Thoa's tiki bar at 6 - 7PM fo r informal networking and catching up with friends old and new. Thoa's has graciously offered to extend their happy hour prices until 7PM to accommoda te our group.

About Our Special Guest David H.T. Wong was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. He is an accompli shed architect and a respected Asian Canadian activist whose family first c ame to North America from China 130 years ago. He is a founding Director fo r Ricepaper Magazine, the Chinese Canadian Historical Society, Asian Canadi an Writers Workshop, and ExplorAsian: Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Societ y. Also trained as a botanist and biologist, David continues his love for n ature with his ongoing efforts to save frogs. David was named by the Vancou ver Sun as one of British Columbia's "100 Most Influential Chinese-Canadian s." Escape to Gold Mountain is his fi rst book.

How to register for a Midwinter 2013 APALA event:
1. Go here: http://www.apalaweb.org/resources/registration/. 2. Click the event title in red that you wish to register for. 3. In the subsequent pop-up box, click on the "REGISTER" button at the b ottom of the box. 4. On the next screen, scroll down to the online form. Fill in your name and email, select your rate, and click "SUBMIT." 5. The next page will be a confirmation screen. Review your information and click "CONFIRM." 6. The next page indicates that payment is required. Click "PAY NOW" to be directed to PayPal. 7. Once your payment is received, you receive an email confirmation of your registration for the event.
