Is your New Year's resolution to take part in the Caldecott 75th Anniversar y celebration? Here are three ways to get started this January:
1) Take part in a Facebook Forum with a Caldecott artist. This month, Meli ssa Sweet will take part in an ALSC Facebook Forum at 11 a.m. Eastern time on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013. Sweet won a Caldecott Honor in 2009 for her ill ustrations in the book "A River of Words: The Story of William Carlos Willi ams," written by Jen Bryant.
2) Register on January 7th for "A Wild Ride: 75 Years of the Caldecott Meda l," the ALSC preconference at ALA Annual on Friday, June 28, 2013, Chicago, IL. Take a wild ride through the past, present and future of award-winnin g children's book art. Hear about the creative process from an array of Ca ldecott winners, as well as editors, art directors, and production managers . Engage with one another in small focus groups and interactive, critical discussions of Caldecott medal books throughout the years.
3) Participate in an ALSC webinar--free for ALSC members. Registration is currently open for "Expanding the Caldecott Experience: Programming with Ca ldecott Winning and Honor Books" with instructor Gene Nelson and "Get to Kn ow the Caldecott Winners" with instructors Kathleen T. Horning and Nick Gla ss.
