I agree that this has been a wonderful year for books for young people. In addition to Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein and other books already mentioned by many including

Wonder by RJ Palacio Liar and Spy by Rebecca Stead The Mighty Miss Malone by Christopher Paul Curtis The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate Three Times Lucky by Sheila Turnage

I also appreciated

*Step Gently Out by Helen Frost (yes gentle poetry and photographs of natural world) *Z is for Moose by Kelly Bingham (very funny) *Looking at Lincoln by Maira Kalman (unique conversational-style biography, great colors) *Con el Sol en los ojos=With the Sun in My Eyes by Jorge Lujan (moving poems and lovely illustrations by Morteza Zahedi using muted colors) *A Rock is Lively by Dianna Hutts Aston (informational poetry, beautiful illustrations *Georgia in Hawaii by Amy Novesky (lovely bold illustrations and a woman of character) *Ocean Sunlight: How Tiny Plants Feed the Seas by Molly Bang and Penny Chisholm (good explanation of effect of light on life) *Lemonade in Winter by Emily Jenkins (sweet story of family and ingenuity with charming illustrations by G. Brian Karas) *Greyhound of a Girl by Roddy Doyle (intergenerational love and respect, humorous) *Hands Around the Library: Protecting Egypt's Treasured Books by Susan L. Roth and Karen Leggett Abouraya (inspirational, great graphics) *Island: Story of th e Galapagos by Jason Chin (beautifully illustrated and quite informative) *Monsieur Marceau by Leda Schubert; illustrated by Gerard DuBois (marriage of spare text and spare illustrations that perfectly portray a mime) *False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen. (Looking forward to the second book!)

For pure fun there is the third book in the Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place (Unseen Guest) by Maryrose Wood with the best imaginable illustrations by John Klassen.

I am reading FitzOsbornes at War, the third book in the Montmaray Journals series by Michelle Cooper. Informative, heartbreaking, where did Cooper find all this information?

I'm working on an end of the year order and can't wait to read so many of these new books.

Happy holidays. I think we all need a rest. Cathy
