Louise Erdrich's CHICKADEE is a favorite.
So is her THE ROUND HOUSE, which won the National Book Award and was suggested on SLJ blog as possible contender for the Newbery.
If you haven't read THE ROUND HOUSE, it is apropos, given the news this week in which Cantor wants to strip the Violence Against Women Act of language that helps Native women.
