This year the Children's Librarians in Cincinnati tried something new with our Mock Newbery. We read these six books:

* The One and Only Ivan, by Katherine Applegate

* Moonbird: a year on the wind with the great survivor B95, by Phil lip Hoose

* Mr. and Mrs. Bunny: Detectives Extraordinaire, translated from th e Bunny by Polly Horvath

* Wonder, by R.J. Palacio

* Summer of the Gypsy Moths, by Sara Pennypacker

* Liar & Spy, by Rebecca Stead

Here's the new part: at the end of November, we voted one title "off the is land" - with apologies to the wacky and wonderful Ms. Horvath, we were down to five.

This morning, after a lively discussion of the five remaining books, we cho se the following:

Winner: The One and Only Ivan, by Katherine Applegate

Honors: Moonbird: a year on the wind with the great survivor B95, by Phillip Hoose Wonder, by R.J. Palacio Liar & Spy, by Rebecca Stead
