There is a beautiful historical series in Australia that is very popular. It is called Our Australian Girl and I think there are about four books in the series. Each book takes a girl from a different time period and background in Australia and tells a fictional tale. Real children have modeled for the covers and came along to the first launch.
Each book is by a different author who has researched their given time period thoroughly and included a lot of historical facts. They have gone on to write three more books each based on their given character in their given time period.
It's a great way for children to get a feel for history while enjoying fictional tales based on the lives of children their own age.
