I'd love to add Susan Campbell Bartoletti's title, The Boy Who Dared, into the mix. There are such wonderful connections in this book to be made that speak to the importance of protecting democracy.

It's a novel based on a true story about Helmuth Hubener, a Hitler Youth, who discovers the truth about the German government while listening to a BBC broadcast on a contraband crystal radio. Every day the rights of the people all over Germany are diminishing. The truth has been twisted and censored and speaking out is considered treasonous. With his unwavering patriotism suddenly in question, Helmuth pays with his life to try to make changes in a world where the meaning of right and wrong have been turned upside down....
