_Submissions Now Open for 2013 PEN Children's & Young Adult Book Awards_

As of October 1, submissions are open for the $5,000 PEN/Steven Kroll Award and the $5,000 PEN/Phyllis Reynolds Naylor Fellowship. The Kroll Award will be given to an American or U.S.-based writer for an exceptional text illustrated in a picture book published in 2012. Submissions are welcome from any source: writers, editors, literary agents, or members of the literary community at large. One need not be a member of PEN to submit. The $5,000 Naylor Fellowship is given to a published author of children or young adults' fiction to aid in completing a book-length work in progress. A candidate must be a writer of children or young-adult fiction in financial need who has published at least two novels for children or young adults that have been warmly received by literary critics, but have not generated sufficient income to support the author.
