Many years ago, I started visiting elementary schools to help students write their own poems. I received the Barbara Juster Esbensen 2000 Poetry Teaching Award for my work with a class of third graders who all wrote amazing poems. Way back then, I hoped to be able to offer my teaching plan and those wonderful poems in book form someday.

I'm happy to announce that my new book /Write a Poem Step by Step/:/A Simple, Logical Plan You Can Follow to Create Your Own Poems/ is available now from Lulu (www.lulu.com/spotlight/joannmacken). Some of those early award-winning poems and many I've collected since then are included as examples.
