JEAN MERRILL died on August 2 at the age of 89. Jean, well known for her classic THE PUSHCART WAR (Scott, l964) also collaborated with her lifelong companion Ronni Solbert, the original illustrator of the classic BRONZEVILLE BOYS AND GIRLS by Gwendolyn Brooks (HarperCollins, 1956).
