Hi all.
I'm really enjoying the variety of thoughts and considerations that are coming out in this conversation.
I thought it would be fun to add a personalized, multimedia dimension to this thread -- so please enjoy these author interviews and other resources about the books that have been recognized by the Printz award since its inception. For many of these books, we've even called the authors and asked them to share the backstory of their writing and even read a little of the book.
Select a title from the alphabetical list in the link above, and then enjoy the collection of materials (from book discussion guides and author websites/blogs, to audio excerpts from the audio books). The "Meet-the-Author Book Readings" are very insightful to the process behind the books, and I believe we have recorded about 17 of these.
Two of my favourites are Walter Dean Myers describing the research he did in prisons to write Monster, and Laurie Halse Anderson sharing her experiences that led to creation of Speak.
Freely share this link with colleagues, staff, and students who enjoy and use these books. Note: you do not have to sign in or be a TeachingBooks.net subscriber to use and enjoy these materials about the books recognized by the Printz.
Cheers,
Nick
