One of the best things about the Printz for me is that it is such an outward-looking award, regularly featuring writers from Australia and the UK and (though just in 2005) two Canadian writers, Ken Oppel and Allan Stratton. Chanda's Secrets is particularly moving and was made into a film, "Life Above All." Janne Teller's Nothing, from Denmark, is one of my heavy favorites and I have been promoting it widely.
I may have missed their names in the discussion but I don't think Melina Marchetta, Lucy Christopher (Stolen- oh!) or Sonya Harnett, favorites all, have been mentioned yet.
