I think part of what we're talking about concerning the whether or not there is much good nonfiction being published for teens these days points to another preference we have seen so far with the Printz: the preference for books written for the upper age range of the audience defined for the Printz (12-18). So many of the outstanding nonfiction books we see, like "Amelia Lost" or the Scientists in the Field series are aimed more at the 12-14 age range. Books like Deborah Heiligman's outstanding "Charles and Emma," aimed at older teens, are few and far between. Granted, there are outstanding new nonfiction books published each year for older teens, and many have already been cited. But, again, these are greatly outumbered by the eligible fiction titles, many of which are aimed at the 15-18 age range, and many of which are quite groundbreaking.

Which Printz Award or Honor books have you found especially appealing (or even accessible) to middle school students?
