The Michael L. Printz Award for literary excellence in young adult li terature entered its own teen years in 2012, when Where Things Come Ba ck by John Corey Whaley became the thirteenth winner. During the first part of August on CCBC-Net, we’ll celebrate the this award's entr y into its own adolescence of sorts by looking back, and looking ahead .

Teenagers can swing from sincere to silly to sullen in a matter of momen ts. But what about literature awards?

Are there mood swings? Are there any common characteristics among the winning books? Can we already point to Printz winners and honor books that do—and don’t—stand the test of time? What impact has the aw ard had on young adult publishing and literature? And what are your pe rsonal Printz Award favorites?
