Never fear the demise of poetry -- It is openly stated in the Common Core l iterature. You will see an increase in its use and many of the old standar ds are being given as examples of complex text -- the text that our childre n have been missing.

I have a huge section of poetry because I love it and cannot bear to elimin ate much --- finally, that is paying off for my school!!!!

The other interesting thing as we move into this Common Core Standards stuf f is that they keep naming books from years ago -- some that we used to own but I had to weed because no one had read them for 10 year or more and I n eed room for the things that everyone was requesting. Some of them I had sa ved on my office shelves for my own use (Each Peach, Pear Plum for one) and am now putting them back into the circulating collection. Others I am buy ing new copies of --- everything old is new again!!!
