Here are some out of print favorites from my days doing circle time at the

childcare center:

A Lion in the Night by Pamela Allen There are a lot of great Pamela Allen picture books that are out of print

here, like Fancy That and My Cat Maisie, but A Lion in the Night is the on e I love the most. (Watch for the little dog peeing on the tree after the

romp is over but before they go eat.)

All Join In by Quentin Blake Cockatoos by Quentin Blake Two very different picture books by Sir Quentin. All Join In is participatory and I used to get the kids all bellowing out the refrains. Cockatoos is a funny hide-and-seek story.

The Big Fat Worm by Nancy Van Laan and Marisabina Russo, ill. ...And the cat said NO! and the dog said YES! I'm not kidding you. I had quartets of kids act out this predictable sequence tale well over a thousand times in my preschool career as I narra ted the action. It teaches the young kids to say NO! through a fun story.

Mooses Come Walking by Arlo Guthrie and Alice Brock This is one I recite during poetry presentations.

The Cello of Mr. O by Jane Cutler and Greg Couch This antiwar tale is one of my personal Top Ten favorites for sharing with

the students in my Picture Books for Older Readers class.

The Puddle by David McPhail This one brings out the little boy in me. . Richie Partington, MLIS Richie's Picks _http://richiespicks.com_ (http://richiespicks.com/) BudNotBuddy_at_aol.com Moderator _http://groups.yahoo.com/group/middle_school_lit/_ (http://groups.yahoo.com/middle_school_lit/) _
