I totally agree about Horace and Benny Bakes a Cake! Both are gems. While working on a recent project, I was heart broken to discover so many favorites are out of print. I guess if you are librarian long enough, this becomes the fate of so many treasures. Here's my list:

Baby Says by John Steptoe. A perfect sibling story.

Come Along, Daisy! by Jane Simmons. This is a separation anxiety story with tension in all the right places.

Five Trucks by Brian Floca. Airport trucks! Need I say more?

Happy Birth Day by Robie H. Harris, Michael Emberley (illus.). This is It's Perfectly Normal for the preschool set.

Max's First Word by Rosemary Wells. Never thought I would be putting this on an out of print list.

My Aunt Came Back by Pat Cummings. As a doting aunt, there need to me more books about us! This is one of the few.

Papa's Song by Kate McMullan, Jim McMullan (illus.). A delight.

Splash! by Flora McDonnell. One of my favorite toddler read alouds for summer.

What James Likes Best by Amy Schwartz. So honest about how children experience the world.

When Will Sarah Come? by Elizabeth Fitzgerald Howard, Nina Crews (photos). This book shows separation anxiety between a younger and older sibling. The only one of its kind I know of.

Best, Rachel
