I could rage on and on about picture books that have been allowed to go out of print.... but I'll just mention one: *Benny Bakes a Cake* by Eve Rice. This is an absolutely perfect storytime book. I hoard my two copies and use them all the time. It is just exactly right for three -year-olds....a perfect little preschool drama, centering on birthdays and naughty doggies ....what could be more interesting to that audience? And the pacing of the story is right on. Just try reading this with a group of rambunctious threes and see how magically they sit spellbound all the way through. What ever happened to Eve Rice? She went to medical school and stopped producing her wondrous picture books. *Sam Who Never Forgets* is another one, although I believe that is still in print. Rice not only produced fine picture book illustrations, she was the writer of the pitch perfect texts. Eve Rice---we need you to come back to children's books!
